An Apologia for the Historic Accuracy of the Bible: The Last Supper & Liturgical Tradition

Just like many other topics which involve scripture, the accuracy and historic authenticity of the Last Supper has been challenged by skeptics. As a result, there were ideas which suggested that the narratives regarding the first Eucharist were not entirely factual, but was instead influenced by early Christian worship. For example, the Lutheran theologian and biblical scholar Rudolf Bultman has made the argument that “while Jesus may indeed have held a final meal with His disciples, the narratives as we have them are creations of the early church and so can tell us nothing about the actual historical roots of the Eucharist but can only witness to its later development.” 1

A Short Biography of Saint Teklehaimanot

In the name of The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. One God, Amen.

“Princes shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall soon stretch out her hands unto God. Psalms 68:31 KJV

Ethiopia, like our beloved Egypt, has strong ties and many appearances in the bible. Today by the grace of God we seek to look at the blessed Saint Tekelhaimanot otherwise known as Saint Takla Haymanot. His life story begins in the 13th century being born to a pious Chrstian family living in Ethiopia. His father Sagaz Ab whose name means the gift of faith was a priest and his mother Sarah was a woman of well means who loved the poor. According to several sources on this blessed Saint, his family loved the Archangel Michael and would honor him on the 12th of every Coptic Month by celebrating with a Liturgy and holding a feast for the poor.

The old man said to him, ‘You know how you insulted them and they did not reply, and how you praised them and they did not speak; so you too if you wish to be saved must do the same and become a dead man. Like the dead, take no account of either the scorn of men or their praises, and you can be saved.’”
